Cadet Officer

In the military officers are divided into "company grade" O-1 (Second Lieutenant) through O-3 (Captain) and "field grade" O-4 (Major) through O-6 (Colonel) and in sort of a similar fashion the Civil Air Patrol cadet officer corps is divided into phase III, or command phase and phase IV, or executive phase. Cadet officers have to learn a whole new way of thinking as they transition from being the NCO "driver of the bus" to now being the strategic thinkers "telling the driver where to go" -- notice I said where, and not how.

Brig Gen Billy Mitchell Award -- C/2d Lt (milestone) the beginning of it all, still considered part of the leadership phase, phase III.

Cadet Staff Duty Analysis (SDA) required for promotions through phases III & IV.
