Cadet Airman

From your first promotion to (technically) Cadet Staff Sergeant is the learning (or follower) phase of the cadet program.

What's needed for each promotion? 

Achievement 1 - Curry Award -- C/Amn

Achievement 2 - Arnold Award -- C/A1C

Achievement 3 - Feik Award -- C/SrA

What are some things you should do?

• Go Flying!

  • Seriously! Take advantage of powered and unpowered orientation flights!

  • We have Squadron 41 who meets in the same building, who flies gliders

  • We have Maj Green at Squadron 68 who's always offering powered flights out of Orange County Airport

• Experience CAP!

  • Attend Squadron, Group, or even Wing activities that catch your attention, be it CyberPatriot, sUAS, STEM, aerospace education, SAREXs, Mission Aircrew School

    • Of course you'll need a working CAWG email to truly get word of all these opportunities

• Attend CAWG Schools

  • Basic Cadet School (BCS)

  • Airman Training School (ATS)

• Attend Encampment

  • You have to attend an encampment in order to receive your Mitchell Award (C/2d Lt), but honestly don't wait until the higher ranks to attend encampment, try to do it between Cadet Airman and Cadet Staff Sergeant - Squadron Commander

  • CAWG Encampment which is typically offered in the summer (this year the dates are: 21 - 29 JUN 24 at Camp Roberts)

  • ORWG Winter Encampment California has a partnership of sorts with Oregon 

• GO TO CPC!

  • Cadet Programs Conference 

  • Unlike the regimented schools above CPC is about fun!  -   "It's a 3 1/2 Day conference completely dedicated to cadets! Cadets can choose from over 100 different classes - everything from dance lessons to leadership, robotics to how to play chess! Special Events include a Friday night ice cream social, Saturday activities fair where cadets are able to play games and visit various booths highlighting different local, regional and national CAP activities, careers, colleges and clubs! Culminating with the CPC Banquet hosted on Sunday evening.  The banquet is similar to a military ball with pomp and circumstance, an amazing guest speaker, you can cheer on your fellow cadets receiving various awards, take pictures at a photo booth and dance the night away with your friends! This is a once a year activity that you don't want to miss!"
